Enter the Sound Garden
The Sound Garden brings my musical world into one place. It shares my background as a performer, a collection of past videos, and the outdoor lessons I teach in a calm park setting. It also offers a small look at the creative items I design for children, with more to come as this space continues to grow. It is a place to explore music, creativity, and community in a way that feels open and connected to the world around us.
Why Music and Nature Matter
Music plays a powerful role in child development by strengthening attention, memory, language growth, emotional regulation, and creative thinking. When children sing, move, or play an instrument, they build brain pathways that support reading, problem solving, and social connection, and they gain a safe way to express feelings and build confidence. In a world filled with fast digital stimulation, music slows the pace and encourages focus, listening, patience, and curiosity. Nature adds another layer of support by reducing stress, increasing attention, and helping children feel grounded in their bodies. When music and nature come together, children experience rhythm, sound, and creativity in a calm, open environment that invites exploration. Together, they offer a learning experience that supports the whole child in emotional, cognitive, social, and creative growth.
Musical Background and Experience
My musical experience spans a wide range of instruments, ensembles, performances, and leadership roles, beginning in early childhood and continuing through middle school, high school, and beyond. These experiences form the basis of my teaching philosophy and the approach I bring to every lesson. The sections below outline the training and performance background that shape my work with students today.

Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I began tapping rhythms, singing, and experimenting with sound as soon as I could talk. I started piano and drums between the ages of three and six. From there, instruments followed quickly and naturally. Throughout childhood and adolescence I learned percussion, clarinet, saxophone, trombone, trumpet, guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, harmonica, recorder, and several others. I often picked up new instruments during summer programs or simply out of curiosity at home. This early and immersive foundation shaped a lifelong connection to music and a deep understanding of how different instruments and styles work together.

Beginning in third grade, I joined choir and a program called Instrumental, which was an early extracurricular opportunity for musically inclined students. I grew up in Zephyrhills, Florida, and spent my middle and high school years immersed in the arts at Raymond B. Stewart Middle School and Zephyrhills High School. In middle school I played percussion in beginning and intermediate band, participated in marching and symphonic band, joined jazz band and choir, and performed in talent shows on drums, xylophone, piano, and voice. By eighth grade I was involved in nearly every ensemble available. I continued this path throughout high school, participating in marching season, symphonic band, choir, show choir, drama club, and theatre productions. I often filled in on clarinet or saxophone when needed.
I served as a section leader in both middle and high school in percussion, auxiliary percussion, and choir. I frequently coached peers and supported younger students. Performance highlights include multiple solos, show choir performances, theatre roles, and a featured vibraphone solo at Disney Springs with my middle school jazz band. Throughout middle and high school, our bands, choirs, and theatre programs consistently earned excellent and superior ratings at MPA, solo and ensemble, all county, and all state events.
I was fortunate to learn under Scott Leahy, Christopher Dyel, Brian Schmidt, Russell Schmidt, and Luan Gore. Each of them shaped my musicianship in meaningful and lasting ways. Their teaching, guidance, and passion for the arts influenced my technique, discipline, creativity, and appreciation for diverse musical styles. I carry deep gratitude for all of them and the foundation they helped build.

My teaching experience began early through section leadership, peer coaching, and volunteering with the middle school band while I was still in high school. Over time, this grew into a broader educational path. I taught music sessions at the Children’s Museum of Denver, worked as an outdoor educator and day camp counselor at YMCA of the Rockies, and spent five years as an Early Childhood Educator in the Denver metro area. These roles strengthened my ability to teach through play, support developmental needs, and create learning environments that are calm, expressive, and grounded in curiosity. This blend of musical training and educational experience shapes the way I teach today. My approach is professional, creative, and responsive to each child.

I have selected a few performances to feature directly on this page, including middle school jazz solos to high school marching band and choir. Musical Training and Skills Developed
Throughout my years in band and choir, I was fortunate to learn under exceptional directors, guest clinicians, and professional musicians who pushed us far beyond the basics. Our programs were highly advanced, and the training I received shaped the way I teach today. Alongside healthy posture, breath support, and proper instrument technique, I studied deeper musicianship skills such as:
Music Lessons Under the Trees
I offer outdoor music lessons for children that blend rhythm, melody, movement, and nature‑based learning. Students explore music through playful, developmentally grounded activities, and those who continue lessons regularly are invited to participate in relaxed community concerts at the park. These lessons take place in a calm outdoor setting that supports focus, creativity, and confidence.
New Collection Coming Soon
The Sound Garden Shop is growing. It will offer a small collection of music themed hats, shirts, and bags designed for kids, with a light touch of outdoor inspiration. This collection will be separate from the main outdoor shop and will focus on simple, creative pieces that celebrate rhythm, imagination, and the playful spirit of The Sound Garden. New items will be added over time as the shop continues to grow.
